March Break

Good Morning Friends!

You are now on March break. Enjoy your time with your families and enjoy the sunshine. Play some games, read a book, do a gonoodle, do some art and relax! You have worked so hard and deserve a break! I am very proud of all of you and the growth you have made this year!

Please feel free to share your Story Jumper Stories with your family. Remember to click:
You parents have your ______@educbe.ca email and password in an email I sent them.

You can also tell them about our rubric we used to mark ourselves.

Two weeks ago we learned about acrostic poems in class. Here is a printable template so you can create a Spring poem at home. Challenge your family members to create a poem as well! Poems are a great way to work on your rhyming skills. Spring Template

Yesterday I posted a read aloud all about Spring, here is one about Winter. Use the following Venn Diagram to compare and contrast the two seasons. Venn Diagram

Spring & Winter Assignment:

  1. Look at the Venn Diagram document
  2. Listen to the explanation Video (Found below)
  3. Listen to Spring and Winter Stories
  4. Fill in the Venn Diagram

Spring Read by Mrs Johnson

HAPPY SPRING!

It doesn't really look like Spring with the snow today but soon we will see the melting snow and new buds on trees. See if you can make a list of all the things that change when Spring arrives.

Hello Families,

English Language Arts:

Looking for ways to practice writing at home? Check out Scholastic's great story starter website. Often students find it challenging to generate ideas for a writing topic when left open ended. This website will help provide some silly writing topics.
Story Starters

Words of the Week:
We will be continuing to practice the word list from last week as there are a couple longer trickier words on it.

Students have access to their personal dictionaries and word lists during writing activities here at school to support them when spelling many of these words. However knowing these words from memory really helps during writing so students can focus on writing their ideas and not spending as much time looking these words up. Some students can become discouraged during the writing process when they feel they need to stop and search for words frequently.
Math:
Math Thinking Routines: Guess my Number?
A great way to practice number at home is to play Guess My Number?
Using a number-line or one hundreds chart found here Interactive Hundreds Chart

  1. Either parent or child chooses a secret number (1 - 100) and writes it down on a sticky note or piece of paper and covers it.
  2. Student/parent take turns asking questions about the number
  3. Use the interactive hundreds chart to record the questions/numbers that have been asked (ex: cross out all the even numbers if the question "Is it an even number? is asked and it is in fact an odd number)
  4. Finally the number is identified - Try to solve with the least amount of questions

Purpose:
  • Place value
  • Algebraic thinking
  • Ordering numbers

Sample Questions:

  • Is the number odd or even?
  • Is the number a one-digit or a two-digit number?
  • Is the number greater than 50?
  • Is the number less that 20?
  • Does the number have ___tens or ____ ones?

Here is another online variation or the guess my number game.
